An extensive bloom (15 km2) of diatom Skeletonema costatum (Greville) Cleve was observed off Kasargod (Lat. 12o20.591 N, Long. 74o54.996 E) during the 2nd week of August 2011, during cruise no. 288 of FORV Sagar Sampada.
